12 Days of Christmas 2013 #01 – A Hidamari Graduation

HidamariSketchSaeHiro2

Hidamari Sketch, how I love you. We have shared a magical time these past four seasons. We have smiled, laughed and been sad together. You comforted me when I felt down and made me reflect over my own life when I needed it. I was one of the residents of the Hidamari Apartments.

Sadly, not everything can last forever and it was now time to give our farewells. Continue reading

12 Days of Christmas 2013 #02 – Kiniro Mosaic and Language Barriers

KiniroMosaic5v2

The first episode of Kiniro Mosaic is out of this world when it comes to cuteness overload. Here we follow a young Japanese girl named Shinobu who, one day, decides to do a homestay in England. There, she meets the young and shy Alice.

The two children do not understand each other, however. After all, one is speaking Japanese and the other English. Despite this, they manage to break the language barrier and become friends for life. Continue reading

12 Days of Christmas 2013 #03 – The Growth of Yura Yamato

C3buSpecOpsTheLine

When you saw the first glimpse of Stella Women’s Academy, High
School Divison Class C
³, if you even have that, I am sure the first thought that went through your head was something along the lines of “Oh, just cute girls shooting cute things”.

That description could not be further away from the truth. Continue reading

12 Days of Christmas 2013 #04 – The Power to Become Idols

KyoukaiNoKanataIdol

I dropped Kyoukai no Kanata after its fifth episode.

Then I picked it back up for the sixth.

This was an episode that came out of nowhere. In an otherwise somewhat serious anime, there was all of a sudden a comedy idol episode. Continue reading

12 Days of Christmas 2013 #06 – The OreImo 2 Specials

OreImoPfft

My reactions.

The first season of Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai, or OreImo for short, was alright. The second season was also fine, but felt a bit unfocused at times.

Then came the “true ending” in form of special episodes and completely turned everything we knew into a pathetic and hideous mess. In three episodes, the OreImo 2 specials manage shit all over the whole series.

That is quite a feat. Continue reading

12 Days of Christmas 2013 #07 – Eh?! Nandatte?!

HaganaiEhNandatte2

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai NEXT was not content with upholding the status quo that had been kept during the whole first season. No, it meant business. It wanted to shake up the relationships between the characters and it actually succeeded very well with that.

There is one moment of utter brilliance in the 11th episode that changed my whole perspective on the series. Continue reading

12 Days of Christmas 2013 #08 – A Flower of Evil Has Bloomed

AkunoHanaYouSure

Anime style.

In 2013, a flower of evil bloomed. This flower, because of its existence, created a gigantic shitstorm that is hard to describe with words. Never before had I witnessed such a massive backlash when it comes to anime.

The anime in question was an adaptation of the manga Aku no Hana. So what did the anime “do wrong”?

It was rotoscoped. Continue reading

TurningGirlsKaerun

Have you seen Turning Girls? No? Go watch it now. Here is a link to Anime Bancho. While at it, watch every other anime on there too. No excuses. Deal? Good.

So about Turning Girls. It is an anime with four girls who are all about to reach the age of 30. Fantastic premise. Go watch it. Continue reading

12 Days of Christmas 2013 #10 – Attack on Titan Goes With Everything

ShingekinoKyojinPizza

Attack on Titan came, Attack on Titan saw, Attack on Titan conquered. The series might not have amused me as much as it did with many others, but it was an experience nonetheless. One really fun thing that spawned from the anime’s first opening theme (紅蓮の弓矢 by Linked Horizon) was a lot of videos slapping the song onto anything possible. The Internet exploded with these videos, which was a hilarious sight to behold.

While listing all my favorites would be impossible to fit here – there are too many! – I have below mentioned the two which caught me the most off-guard.

Share your favorites too! Continue reading
